JOY is an ecumenical Christian charity run by a small group of dedicated staff in our office and warehouse in Windhill Shipley, and is totally voluntary.
Joy offers advice to other groups and liaises with many other charities in the same field. We raise funds via two JOY charity shops in Bingley and Shipley who not only sort and sell, but receive donations in goods or cash, promote the charity and act as a listening ear to many lonely folk who drop in for a chat. Also via donations from churches, businesses and individuals.
Since January 1990 JOY has sent aid/funds to Romania and 3rd world situations:
Albania, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Burma, Chechnyia, China, Crimea, Croatia, Czek, Ghana, India, Kosova, Latvia, Lithuania, Malawi, Moldavia, Mongolia, Niger, Paraguay, Pakistan, Peru, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Ukraine, Uganda, Yugoslavia.
Our work and commitment is to Romania where we have several ongoing projects and a commitment to helping many sick and needy people.
We also send aid out through linked charities to 3rd world situations, most recently to Ghana, Ukraine and Sierra Leone; and 8 to 10 lorries a year of supplies and equipment to our projects in Romania. In crisis situations we send disaster relief aid as and where needed.
We have a small van that does most of our local collections of goods for the shop (it’s a bonus when people can deliver) and medical supplies and equipment for abroad.
