Live @ Costa is back!2nd October 2022

Live @ Costa is back!Live @ Costa returns on Sunday 2nd October at 6.30pmThis free event aims to provide a space for people to encounter the Christian faith in a non-threatening atmosphere. There is always a variety of quality entertainment (music, storytelling, drama etc.) as a background to the gathering. It is through this medium that the faith content of the evening is delivered. This is usually done through an interview with the performers and well as through their performance. For this event we are welcoming Leeds Folk Fiddle Group. We will be having a Celebration Service and holding our AGM at Saltaire Methodist Church on Sunday 16th October at 6.30pm to which everyone is welcome. This is a great opportunity to come together for worship and fellowship and to celebrate the goodness of God over the past year. The usual tasks of the AGM will be dealt with, but we will also spend time worshipping together and hearing reports from the various activities of the charity.

A special message regarding Shipley Christians Together and Ukrainian Refugees

Black Blue and Yellow Ukrainian Patriotic Flag Symbol No war Ukraine Map Facebook Post

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

We are writing to inform you that Shipley Christians Together  have signed up to the UK Government scheme to accept refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine. We know that some of you will choose to do this individually, but we hope as Shipley Christians Together to be able to provide a safe haven for those fleeing the terrors of war, especially women and children.

We are in contact with people nearer the frontline to help us to identify people we might sponsor under this new scheme announced today.

We anticipate one, or more families might come to us who need housing and our plan would be to rent a home (or homes) in Shipley for them to live in, given they might have to be here some considerable time.

Others might come as single people and members of our churches might be able to house them for the initial six months of the government scheme.

Help will be available from the local authority and we can liaise with local schools to get children back into education.

What is needed

  • Prayer – as we seek to negotiate the process of helping people move from Ukraine to Bradford.
  • Money – will be needed to help with rent if we have to obtain housing for a family.
  • Furnishings – if we rent an unfurnished property.
  • Rooms – if single people come who can be housed with a family.
  • Logistics support – helping people register with a doctor etc, source furniture, assist in getting utilities connected.
  • Translation – if you know anyone who speaks Ukrainian or another Slavic language (Russian is common)

Good Friday Service

Friday 15th 7.00pm at Christian Life Centre 4 Manor Lane, Shipley BD18 3EA

Example Parcel

Food parcels delivered to 44 families in Shipley and Baildon

Huge thanks to our volunteers yesterday who packed and delivered food parcels like this one to 44 families in Shipley and Baildon. The cost was once again covered by Bradford Council and Shipley Christians Together provided the manpower and cars to get it to those families who need it. Such a delight to bring a small part of the Kingdom to our corner of the earth. It was so wonderful to see people willing to deliver in the pouring rain and howling wind. Thank you so much to all who made it possible!

Cuppacare Opens Again!

Cuppacare opened again last Friday! Thanks to the volunteers who work so hard at the weekly café to provide refreshments and companionship to visitors. Organisers still need volunteers, especially at 8am/8.30am, even if only for an hour. If you could volunteer, please drop in to the café at Shipley Baptist Church on a Friday, after 10am, to find out more.

CuppaCare cafe to reopen in Shipley this Friday

A popular drop-in cafe in Shipley is reopening this Friday (September 10).

CuppaCare, based at Shipley Baptist Church, is staffed by volunteers on behalf of Shipley Churches Together. The cafe is open on Fridays from 10am to 1.15pm for the sale of soup, sandwiches, toasted tea cakes, tea and coffee. There is also a book stall selling Christian cards and books.

Edna Hague, who runs the cafe, said: “Everyone is very welcome, and we find people who are on their own particularly like the friendly atmosphere. It’s great to be returning after such a long absence due to Covid.”

CuppaCare is also appealing for more volunteers to support the cafe. Edna added: “Our volunteers find the work very rewarding. Anyone joining the team need not attend every week, or all the time – just an hour every so often would be appreciated, and you would soon make new friends.”

For more information or to volunteer, call Edna on 01274 586962.
