SHIPLEY PRAYER FOCUS SEPTEMBER 2016

August 17, 2016 BELIEVE IN SHIPLEY PRAYER FOCUS SEPTEMBER 2016

The Believe in Shipley mission festival will take place between 23rd September and 2nd October. The week will provide a focus for events organised under the banner of Shipley Christians Together and also for more local events run by individual church fellowships in the Shipley area.

Less than 40 days to go until Believe in Shipley! It’s exciting but also daunting as we think of practical things that still need to be done and also wonder about who we will invite to the many events that are happening organized by our own congregations or centrally.

LET’S GIVE THANKS FOR ALL THAT GOD HAS DONE SO FAR:

  • For prayers answered about venues (doors literally being opened to us) and people (often the people who are the doorkeepers!)
  • For the improved health of those on the Steering Group, particularly Malcolm and Caroline
  • For the many people who are coming from outside Shipley to support what we are doing.
  • For the creativity and energy of individuals who have come forward to organize specific events like the Big Picnic
  • People coming on board to help with publicity and communications
  • The increased sense of unity and purpose amongst our church leaders
  • Relationships being built with church leaders who have in the past been “on the fringe”

LET’S PRAY FOR ALL THAT STILL NEEDS TO HAPPEN:

  • For a strong move of God amongst us His people leading us to greater brokenness for the lost and an increased desire for holiness and to see God’s Kingdom here amongst us in Shipley.
  • Those around us living lives comfortable in their ignoring God to be disturbed so as to become aware of the “God-shaped hole” inside.
  • For final arrangements to be made for the Big Purple Bus and for activities on the first Saturday.
  • The publication of the brochure detailing all the events going on during the festival.
  • For more workers to help with the Big Picnic and for a venue for preparing food beforehand.

LET’S PRAY FOR ONE PERSON:

  • Ask God to lay one person on your heart if He has not already done so that you will commit to praying for and inviting to at least one event during the Mission period. Pray that God will give you a greater love and compassion for this person and for opportunities to talk with them more about your faith.

OPPORTUNITIES TO PRAY MORE:

  • Sign up to the Neighbourhood Prayer Network newsletter for prompts and encouragement to pray for the people on your street weekly. (Please let Angus know if you have done this!)
  • Go to your fellowship’s Prayer meeting(s)
  • Go to the “Pray for Shipley” meetings. These are held monthly in various people’s houses around Shipley. The next meeting is on 27th September at 12pm and will be a prayer walk starting from Shipley Market Square.
  • For more information about the events during Believe in Shipley and the specific needs visit the Believe in Shipley website.

“Dear God, Your Kingdom come in Shipley before, during and after Believe in Shipley. Help us to work alongside you in this great work. Give us all Your vision for transformed lives and communities”

Believe in Shipley Prayer Focus

BELIEVE IN SHIPLEY PRAYER FOCUS JUNE 2016

17th May, 2016 BELIEVE IN SHIPLEY PRAYER FOCUS JUNE 2016

The Believe in Shipley mission week will take place between 25th September and 2nd October. The week will provide a focus for events organised under the banner of Shipley Christians Together and also for more local events run by individual church fellowships in the Shipley area.

This month, let’s give thanks for:

* The fact that we now have a central programme for the 10 days of the Mission

* The large variety of events that are now going to take place during the week.

* The willingness of Archbishop Sentamu, poet Stewart Henderson and Rugby player Jamie Buchanan to support Believe in Shipley and be with us for part of the week.

* Open doors. The police, the local council and at a lower level, the staff of Victoria Hall have been very supportive of what we are trying to do.

* The continued energy and enthusiasm of the steering committee and the various people heading up specific events

Let’s continue to pray for:

* The steering committee of Believe in Shipley; most are now back to full health but still needing God’s protection and our support. Caroline Andrews has had to be readmitted to hospital and will have to have another operation.

* The various groups organizing events during the Believe in Shipley week: Debbie Skowronski and the team organizing the Big Picnic, John Froud and associates organizing music nights in a pub during the week, Daryl Hackett who will be coming to Shipley market square, Members of Shipley Baptist Church organizing events for the Big Bus, James Stannett and team organizing the youth event in Roberts’ Park, the St. Peter’s team organizing the visit of Jamie Buchanan

* Ourselves that our lives and words would cause those around us to seek God more and to be looking for answers to their questions in our Lord.

* Those around us that God will be working in their lives drawing them to Himself.

* Those living in Shipley on the margins of society due to homelessness, addictions, poverty, exploitation. Pray that God will rise up more Christians to work and walk alongside these people, again pointing them to Himself.

PRAY FOR BELIEVE IN SHIPLEY

January 2016

The Believe in Shipley mission week will take place next year between 25th September and 2nd October. The week will provide a focus for events organised under the banner of Shipley Christians Together and also for more local events run by individual church fellowships in the Shipley area.

Let’s continue to praise God for what has happened so far:

  • Many of our local church leaders regularly praying and working together (planning Believe in Shipley and running the Bible Stall in Shipley Market)
  • Initiatives like the Big Picnic and Big Cream Tea
  • Doors opening to us in local organisations including Victoria Hall, Costa’s and Bradford Brewery.
  • Archbishop Sentamu coming as a main event speaker.
  • Ongoing development of the website
  • Bishop Toby’s ongoing input to Believe in Shipley.
  • Financial commitment from several churches to help to cover the costs of the mission.
  • The provision of admin support and help with publicity

Let’s focus this month on praying for people we already know:

  • Pray for the protection of the steering group. There has been a real sense of these people being attacked in different ways in recent months.
  • Pray for family, friends and neighbours who don’t yet know Christ. Pray for opportunities to share your story with them.
  • Pray for groups of people who already use our church buildings and who are already “warm” to church contact.
  • Pray for groups of people that Christians in the Zephaniah Trust, Open the Book, Cuppacare and Shipley Foodbank Centre come into contact with and regularly share their faith with that they would be open to God.
  • Pray for those who are starting to organise the events which will take place both before and during the mission week.
  • Pray for people attending the Alpha course being run by City Valley Church at Saltaire Canteen and any other such courses across Shipley that we may know of.

Let’s all listen to God’s heart for Shipley and perhaps find new ways to pray individually and corporately for the success of Believe in Shipley. Do also talk to your church leaders if you want to help in specific ways.

December 2015

December 2015

The Believe in Shipley mission week will take place next year between 25th September and 2nd October. The week will provide a focus for events organised under the banner of Shipley Christians Together and also for more local events run by individual church fellowships in the Shipley area.

Let’s continue to praise God for what has happened so far:

  • The growing sense of unity amongst our local church leaders. This has been strengthened by the weekly prayer meetings which now have been running for over 7 months.
  • An excitement and creativity amongst our local fellowships as we plan for what we can do both in the run up to the mission and during the week itself
  • The support of local organisations, including Victoria Hall, Costa’s and Bradford Brewery.
  • The commitment of Archbishop Sentamu as a main event speaker.
  • The creation of a website and the ongoing input of someone to this.
  • Bishop Toby’s commitment to Believe in Shipley.
  • Financial contributions from several churches to help to cover the costs of the mission.
  • The provision of people to work on administration and publicity

There is of course much still to pray for:

  • That God would be working in the lives of the people of our local community making them more hungry for relationship with Him
  • More initiatives prior to Believe in Shipley to serve our local community and shift perspectives on church and faith
  • More prayer from us both as individuals and fellowships
  • Wisdom and continued energy for the steering group as they make decisions on the use of venues and resources; they are also deciding about timetabling events and speakers and the many other things needed to make the week a success.
  • Discernment for us all as we consider how to witness to friends and family, particularly if they are from other faith backgrounds.
  • Appropriate follow up after the mission week.

Let’s all listen to God’s heart for Shipley and perhaps find new ways to pray individually and corporately for the success of Believe in Shipley. Do also talk to your church leaders if you want to help in specific ways.

PRAY FOR BELIEVE IN SHIPLEY

October 2015

The Believe in Shipley mission week will take place next year between 25th September and 2nd October. The week will provide a focus for events organised under the banner of Shipley Christians Together and also for more local events run by individual church fellowships in the Shipley area.

At this early stage there is much to thank God for:

* The establishment of a weekly prayer meeting for church leaders; this has been running successfully for over 6 months now and regularly seeing six or more people gather together in prayer.

* The booking of venues for joint events during the Believe in Shipley week particularly Victoria Hall

* The Archbishop of York committing to speak at one of the events

* The creation of a website

* An administrator coming forward to work with the Steering group

* The active support of Bishop Toby who has invited local church ministers to a meeting in November

There is of course also much to pray for:

* That God would be working in the lives of the people of our local community making them more hungry for relationship with Him

* More initiatives prior to Believe in Shipley to serve our local community and shift perspectives on church and faith

* For continued favour with people in authority locally, particularly in regards to access to schools and colleges and for events planned in public spaces.

* Wisdom for the steering group and wider local church leadership in preparing for follow-up after the Mission.

* Continued cooperation and growth of good relationships between churches after Believe in Shipley.

Let’s all listen to God’s heart for Shipley and perhaps find new ways to pray individually and corporately for the success of Believe in Shipley.

Please also come along to and publicise the Believe in Shipley Advent service at 6pm on Sunday 29th November at Northcliffe Church.
